Dance For the Cure 2003

This started for me when Dee Robert posted on DJ Rico's Message Board that she was doing the show at the Roxy to benefit breast cancer awareness and research.  I saw the line-up and was like - I HAVE to go to this show.  Not only is it for an incredibly amazing cause - benefitting www.1in9.org - it was a chance to do one of my most favorite things in the world - watching my favorite dance artists perform their songs live.

Special thanks to Joe Persampiere, Andew Pisko and Vince Andrews of the Fund Raising Professionals for organizing such a wonderful event.

Geri Barish from the Long Island Breast Cancer Actuion Coalition thanked the crowd for coming out and talked about where the money raised will be going.  I thought it was quite cool that she came out and that the LIBCAC is holding events like Dance For the Cure to reach out to the club community and get the new generation involved with the fight against breast cancer. Check out www.1in9.org for more information.

The Performers

Judy Torres started the show off - oldschool styled... you could feel the love in the crowd - everyone screamed as Judy hit all the notes and danced up a storm.  She even pulled some guy on stage to test his love for his wife.. .

The "new" Cover Girls

Oh Recording artists Aria performed between the Cover Girls and Dee -- but my camera battery went out, so all I was able to capture was the live clips at the bottom of the page - they sang "Soldier Boy" which really brought the crowd together.. the three lovely ladies sound magical together and really gave the night a sense of meaning.

Dee Robert debuted her new song "The Greatest Love I've Ever Know" which sounds like its going to be a huge radio hit.   She pulled Marty Thomas on stage and sang her massive hit "Seperate Ways"

Dee brought Marty Thomas up on stage

The energetic Becky Baeling gave an emotional performance of "Without Love" - I swear she was in tears at the end of the song.. then suddenly the mood changed and she belted out "Getaway" -  a pure pop confection.. I am beginning a huge Becky fan.. I would descirbe her as "the looks of Britney with the personality of Bette" -- she is all that and bag of chips.. watch out for her!

The beautiful Natalia flew up from Miami to perform her debut Nervous release "When We Sing".. her backup dancers were quite hot.. and the three of them performing together.. well.. do the math..

Amber started with "Anyway" and then asked the crowd what they wanted to hear, so she performed "Yes."  You've got to love a dance diva who takes requests.. She pulled up a cute boy on stage and ended her set with "Sexual," starting with the slow version and transitioning to the Thunderpuss remix.. I love seeing Amber perform when she is having so much fun...

Next Plateau recording artist Dana Ritacco blew me away with her energetic show combining an incredible vocal presence and really tight choreography (with 5 dancers).  The show struck me as something I would see on a Grammy stage.. her debut single is a cover of the club classic "Object of My Desire" and I anxiously anticipate her Widelife produced original "No More Games" to be one of 2003's biggest club hits..

Jade Starling of Pretty Poison got high tech and used a projection screen to start her show with very good results.  She had a very sexy man shadow dance as she sang a new remix of "Safekeeping" her forthcoming single -- which  totally moved me.  Jade ended with the brand new 2003 Ultimix of "Catch Me I'm Falling.. a total crowd favorite...

Kim Sozzi aka Kim Styles came back from Germany where she has been promoting a new single "Every1's a Winner." (Check out the video on her website.)  Kim started with a catchy new europop influenced song ""Give Me Back My Broken Heart" and ended with her clubsmash "Feeling Me."

Angelo Venuto and the Sicilians performed their massive hit "L'Italiano" and a really emotional interpretation of "Ti Amo."

tReina came on stage and sang with Angelo and then performed her Hot 100 smash "No One's Gonna Change You."  I was battling camera drama  (battery was messing up on me) so I didn't get enough pictures - but let me just tell you that Reina looked absolutely beautiful and sounded more magnificent - check out the clips here.

Tina Ann debut her new single "I Do" which is already added to WKTU!  She and her backup dancers did an incredible show!

The always enchanting Aubrey was introduced by Hex Hector and Dezrok who told the story of how she was discovered.  Aubrey sang her single "Willing and Able" and belted out an enchanting interpretation of her #1 club hit "Stand Still."

Widelife (Ian J and Rachid) were in full effect at the show announcing Simone Denny who belted out their forthcoming - sure to be - club smash "Haven't I Cried Enough."  Symone had the crowd singing along - syllable by syllable - to "I Don't Want You." which was recently readded to KTU with a new mix by Joe Bermudez.  It's always great to see such nice people having such wonderful success..

HiNRG pioneer Ernest Kohl sang "You Make Me Weak."

The always beautiful and effervescent Laleh charmed the crowd with her Hex Hector produced debut "Captured."
